A turn in the weather

We're settling into "winter" weather here in Israel. The weather is cool in the evenings, and I've seen my first rains. It's 65 degrees right now, I'm wearing long sleeves, and, sadly, I'm freezing. (I need my fuzzy sheepskin slippers!) Although, when I hear that it snowed in Minnesota and upstate New York a couple weeks ago, I am thankful to be where I am.

This weekend was an especially rainy weekend.

As in most warm weather climates, rain tends to shut things down in Israel. Rain is especially problematic here because it causes flash floods in the flat coastal regions. Add in the fact that Israelis are horrendous, overly aggressive drivers (the number one cause of death in Israel is car accidents), and you have fatal accidents across this miniscule country.

The poor weather is fortunate for my greedy little blog readers, though. If not for the rain, I wouldn't be sitting in front of this computer laboriously uploading pictures from my field trip last week.

An aside: my Christmas break plans have been solidified. No India, no Morocco, no Alps. Instead, I have at least one friend visiting from the States, and we're planning a grand tour of Israel plus a week in Egypt. Can't wait. On a slightly related note, if anyone has travelled to Istanbul recently, please send advice my way. I will be spending Turkey Day weekend in Turkey.

65? Not bad...we've been chilly with 45-50 here for a while, but it doesn't seem that bad once you get used to it. Right now it's the wind that's killing me. Are you missing the New England fall at all?

Can't wait to see your photos!!! Btw, did you ever get the box I sent you months and months ago for your birthday?
